” I want to go over one more time about the question of resolution. We recently got a few files from customers who want us to print giclees. These files have are between 60 and 70 ppi (pixels per inch). PPI is the number of pixels per inch and it is not to be confused with DPI, which is dots per inch. We can print a perfectly fine giclee at 150 ppi as our printers can go up to 2880 DPI. One dot does not equal to one pixel!
On the other hand, a 70 PPI file does not have the necessary resolution to print on smooth papers but will be easier with canvas because of the inherent texture (which masks some of the lack of resolution). Interpolating with software does help somewhat but it is not a magic bullet. This is why professional photographers do buy high end digital cameras that cost $20,000 and more. If they could get away with a $1,000 system, they would. Nobody wants to waste money. Same with scanners. You can pick up a cheap scanner or spend $40,000 on one. It has to do with range, resolution and other factors … ”

Peak industry body meets with the Federal Government as part of its campaign to modify harmful effects of proposed legislation against printed annual reports.
The proposed legislation will change the requirements for printed annual reports in favour of electronic delivery, with printed reports only provided to investors who specifically request them. Following its open call to the industry to take action over the issue, Philip Andersen, CEO Printing Industries and national president, Peter Lane, held a meeting with Nick Minchin, minister for finance and administration and MP Chris Pearce, parliamentary secretary to the treasurer charged with drafting the legislation.
Andersen said the meetings were “positive” and “encouraging” with the government listening to industry concerns over the lack of consultation and receptive to alternative approaches that would lessen the negative impact on the printing industry while also minimizing costs to business.
“We have suggested that a more concise, marketing focused hardcopy annual report would serve the interests of business by minimizing costs and presenting a positive, marketing oriented image,” says Andersen. “Comprehensive reports including all the statutory reporting requirements could then be made available online.
“Our case also stressed some security issues which the government need to take into consideration and the need for a phase in period which would benefit our industry. This was well received. We were able to get assurances that there would be no rush to introduce the legislation and that consultation would now continue with Printing Industries during the legislative drafting process.”

The Kodak Digimaster E125 is ‘an impressive on demand printer that has great appeal for high volume print providers’, according to the Uk’s ‘Better Buys for Business’ magazine. The Digimaster E125 digital production system was an ‘editor’s choice’ in the magazine’s annual review of digital printers. The magazine’s guide described the Digimaster E125 system as ‘a versatile, speedy way for customers to add high volume production printing capabilities’.
It also further credited the press for its process control technology, added: ‘it ensures image consistency, which is critical in print on demand applications’.
The Digimaster E125, with a claimed resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi) x 600dpi, employs a small particle developer and imaging technology to provide documents with sharp text, crisp halftones and rich graphics, said Kodak.
Featuring a claimed print speed of 125 pages per minute (ppm) the Digimaster E125 is said to support a duty cycle of 2.5 million to 4.25 million impressions per month.
